Industry Specific ComplianceThe Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) on September 02, 2026, notified the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (Databank and Information System) Regulations, 2026 under the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board Act, 2006. The Regulations establish a framework for collection, processing, storage, anonymisation and publication of data relating to the petroleum and natural gas sector and come into force from the date of publication in the Official Gazette.

The Regulations apply to entities engaged or intending to engage in refining, processing, storage, transportation, distribution, marketing, import/export of petroleum and natural gas, including pipeline activities, city/local gas distribution networks and LNG terminals. Entities are required to submit specified data through Schedules A to H, covering CGD networks, natural gas pipelines, petroleum/petroleum-product pipelines, technical and safety standards, LNG terminals, fees and charges, refining/transportation/storage of petroleum products, and NHIMS. PNGRB may also seek additional data through public notices.

The data collection framework is intended to support consumer awareness and protection, fair competition, avoidance of infructuous investment, open access and transportation tariff regulation, technical and safety standards, and adequate and uninterrupted supply. PNGRB may process the information and publish statistical reports on its official website. The Regulations also provide for confidentiality of data marked confidential by entities, subject to the provisions of the Act.
